By the end of the novel, the dramatic turn of events concerning Toundi's fate is no surprise.  There are several incidents which prepare the reader for the unfortunate outcome of his life.  We will discuss three examples to summarize the significance of the way the story ends.

p. 76  Explain the significance of the prison scene.  What impact does this incident have on Toundi?

p. 86  What is the importance of Toundi's discovery? (p.89 also refer to the servants' conversation)

p.122 Why do you think Moreau and others want to get rid of Toundi?  What is the meaning of the
         orderly's statement?
